WOW Major lack up updates!!!

I am so sorry guys!! I tend to write everything on facebook anymore and have not been updating my blog properly!

Lets see:

Gillian - she is doing good, typical 7.5 year old though. Going through some stuff at school, mainly this is the year that we go from "playtime" to "work time" at school. She is having some issues adjusting. Mainly paying attention and learning the same stuff over and over and over.

She was accepted and recommended to the Gifted and Talented program at their school and that will help A LOT! We meet with the GT teacher, the Principal, and the Teacher on Weds for that.

Otherwise she is doing well, a little attitude but shes 7... Asthma is doing well... Knock on wood...

Alexander - He is... well... very much 4.5!! He has started to develop quite the attitude, which oddly is much appreciated. A lot of children with Autism do not have "an opinion" on things, and let me tell you what HE DOES!! However we have GOT to get it under control well before he is allowed to think it is okay. He says things like "NO DADDY! I DONT WANT TO GO TO MY ROOM!" LOL its cute.. kinda.. on days.. when he is not screaming it.. VERY LOUD... ;)

He is staring developmental therapy right away, FINALLY, after 4 years and being delayed 2-3 years in most spots we are NOW staring DT?! grr the system bugs me.

Caitilyn - WOW is she ever our SPIT FIRE!!! She is SOOO VERY 2 going on 7... LOL She is bright, energetic, FUN, very loving, and into EVERYTHING, however she listens very well for a 2 year old. VERY WELL, she is partially potty trained, THANK GOODNESS Alex is not.. She really is at such a fun learning age. I love it!

Makayla... Miss Makayla.. Always keeping us on our toes.. Ya know, when I found out I was pregnant with Maky Moose I was not trying to get pregnant, she was very much a shock really, C was only 6 months old.. We were like eh, we will deal with it.. better now then before we got rid of all the baby stuff. (we did get rid of a lot though)

I had a HORRIBLE pregnancy with Makayla... HORRIBLE.. I was in and out of the hospital with high blood pressure, at one point they were talking possible strokes, damage to liver ect,

Then Mooses birth... I was induced 1 month early because of high blood pressure, they needed to get her out asap. I told them do NOT give me pitocin that fast, it nearly killed me with Gillian.. well as some docs are, mine totally "knows his stuff" and he gave me pit to fast..

He broke my water at 1 pm, I was like a 4 ish.. 5 maybe I don't remember specifics. That is when all hell broke loose, he decided to go work out.. WTF?! less than 20 minutes later my baby "fell out" on the bed, no nurse under her, no doctor, no nothing.. I grunted, I did not even push and get came out... My mom grabbed her up, she was the first one to touch my baby girl.

Moral of all of this is that Moose needs things HER WAY... She has a plan here, no matter what anyone says.

So, Moose is born and we know right away there is something wrong, my mom kept telling me she had cranio-synostosis, which is what my sister, my dad, and his nephew had. I talked to the ped about it at 1 month old, he was not worried.. typical.. I would learn that they are never really that worried until you put her freaking foot down hard.

I was nursing her, they had me stop nursing her and pump and bottle feed because she was pukeing and not gaining weight.. well that did not help so they switched her to formula, that did not work, she had a weight check in February, she was 3 months old on the nose, I think it was the 5th, I told him there, I AM VERY WORRIED, she has craino synostosis.

I was told AGAIN, that he did not think she had it becasue she was well rounded on her head, she just had plagiocephaly (flat head) however he wanted to do a CT scan because her top soft spot was back further than it was supposed to be.

So, he did the CT scan on Feb. 12th, on Feb 13th (a friday) HE called me himself.. and told me yes she had a closure of her lambdoid suture and would need surgery.

She had her surgery on April 6th, I thought our journey was coming to an end..

Boy was I WRONG!! She was in OT and PT mainly for her neck issues, I kept saying there was something more wrong with her. I was worried about something called "Chiari Malformation" I was told and I quote "Nah, that is very rare, its not something we need to worry about with her" this was by the plastic surgeon..

Come to find out, the neurosurgeon (and the plastics)KNEW about the CM before surgery and attempted to make things larger back there in hopes that it would pull out.

It did not, at her 3 month post op check up with her NS he scheduled an MRI of her neck and spine to check the CM to see how bad it was, he was hopeful it had fixed itself.

Sure enough, she still had a full Chiari Malformation, and it had not improved at all, well pre surgery it was 1.4 mm now its 1.2 however that can be positioning, it can be the difference in radiologists .2 mms is not enough of a change to be accurate.

So, the plan of action was to go home, let her grow, lets hope and pray that the cerebral tonsil will pull itself out of the foramen magnum. We were to watch for things such as decreased appetite, crankiness, visual problems, reflux, breathing difficulty, heart rate issues, noisy breathing ect..

Well, those issues have started to come back a bit, so we go back to the surgeon on October 6th, we are working on getting a swallow study done, ect.. SO I will know more later but now I do not.

Cerebellum – governs movement
Pons – contains centers for the control of vital processes, including respiration and cardiovascular functions. It also is involved in the coordination of eye movements and balance
Temporal lobe – processes hearing, memory and language functions.
Medulla oblongata – contains centers for the control of vital processes such as heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, and swallowing.
Occipital lobe – helps process visual information.
Cerebral Tonsil - the part of her Cerebellum that hangs between her Foramen Magnum and her spinal cord.
Foramen Magnum - the opening at the base of the skull, all brain matter is supposed to stay ABOVE this, but in Makys case it does not.

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of updates, things have been SOO CRAZY around here!!

Mondays we have Alexanders Speech and Makaylas feeding therapy.

Tuesdays we have Doctors appointments (I have to schedual things on certain days like this because of how busy we are) We also have Makaylas OT appts.

Wednesdays we have Makaylas PT and Helmet appointments

Thursdays we have Alexanders OT

Fridays I TRY to schedaul off to clean my house!! Most of these appts are 30-60 mins from the house, and then Gillian and Alex have to go to school to so I have to be here certian times of the day to get them.

OYE Its been sooo busy!!!

However, busy is a good thing!!! It means we are healing and getting better, it means I still have my babies in my arms to make me busy, so while I may be whineing a bit from time to time, busy is a VERY good thing.. I would HATE to be bored right now..

Makayla is doing exeptionally well!!! Its amazing at how well she is doing!! Everyone is amazed with her.

The most major issues we have had post op have been fighting with the helmet!! Its horrible, however its doing its job.

Makayla is sitting with lots of support (she is 6 months old now!! We are 5 weeks post op) She is trying to roll, and she is a completly different child than she was pre surgery.

We did confirm the Chiari Malformation, which means that her brain was pushed downward into her brain stem, this is probabably causing headaches and numb limbs (which is why she isnt grabbing things like a 6 month old, HOWEVER she is improving!!)

This may require another surgery if it causes her more issues, OR it may clear up and heal over time now that there is room for things to move in there.

Alexander is doing well!! Talking and actually communicating alot.

Caitilyn is AMAZING.. She is 90% potty trained, still having issues at the dinner table and in the car, however thats all part of the process. In the last week shes had maybe 6 accidents!! YAY CAITY!!!

Gillian was refered to her schools Gifted and Talented program!!! YAY GILLY Shes doing very well too!

I forgot to mention that during our post op follow up clinics they had sent Makaylas information (pictures and bloodwork) to the genetics doc, he wants to see us now too. MAYBE we can get some answers!!!!

Makayla is doing decent, healing nicely... she goes in thursday to be scanned for her helmet.

I am BEAT so very tired, ready to get back to "normal" Makayla is back to getting up every 3 hours at night, then ever 4 shes up for tylonal no matter when she eats.. so I am up every 2-3 hours. My house is falling apart but I have my kids.. and they are doing well.. thats all the matters the rest will find its place.

I am trying to hold everything together.. I hope I am doing a good job.. some days I dont feel like it.. today is one.. Makayla is rightfully cranky, Alex is REALLY off his rocker, getting MEAN hitting, pushing, screaming alot, Caitilyn is looking for attention, but she is doing good with the attention we can give her, Gillian too.. I am really glad that school is starting back monday in hopes that we can get things back on track.

Thats really all there is to update right now... Alex has therapy on Thursday, Makayla on Friday, and I think there is feeidng therapy in there some place.. LOL

Makayla update

So, they moved her surgery up to TWO weeks from today!!! Its super scary to think its that close. I am pretty scared. I know alot of babies make it through this JUST fine! However, there is a 1 in 25 chance that something could go wrong and she wont make it. ONE in TWENTY FIVE!!! If your odds of winning the lotto were that high you would put of paying bills just to play. Right?

Everyone keeps telling me to calm down, just dont think about it. I cant, I am doing okay at the moment though. I love everyone out there (even those that tell me to calm down!) so much, I am very thankful to have you all. (even though no one comments on this blog, I see its being read)

She is doing great though! I am really hopeful that Surgery (along with our preop with the neurosurgeon Thursday) will bring good things.

Her muscle tone is still very stiff and rigid, however, she is starting to allow me to roll her onto her left side, she is turning her head more willingly to the left, and her torticollis seems to be lessening. Shes midlineing alot more than she used to. Shes also been HAPPY a baby I never had before!!!

So.. with Makaylas good news aside that brings me to my second topic that I have not brough up here.

Alexander had some tests ran on him last week, he is regressing a bit, not much but some, it may be due to the new baby and all her glory. Or it could be other things (including normal autism) SO... Friday he will be having an MRI of his brain to see if there is anything going on in there. I am confident he is fine.. Because God knows I cant deal with Alex having a tumor and Makayla having brain surgery (well as close as it gets.. skull surgery) all in the same month.. So he has to be fine. He will be fully sedated and he NEVER does okay with that, he always gets sick, and wakes up violent.

However prayers for Makayla, Alex, and my sanity are always welcomed and much appriciated.

I also want to thank EVERYONE who participated in the fundraiser for Makayla, we raised over 400.00 for her. Mommy treated her to TWO new cloth diapers, a hat, and the rest will be used for co pays, meals, and gas during her stay in the hospital.

I am asked constantly if she needs anything, so thank you all again for that, she could use medium/large cloth diapers, zip up sleepers (for post surgery) 3-6 month, and of course meals for my husband during the week that I will leave him with 3 kids. LOL

Most of all though, we need prayers.. thank you all again so much.

So, I know I have been neglecting my blog land, infact I have been neglecting alot latley. Makayla has her surgery on April 27th, my grandma has surgery tomarrow morning, I have managed to sink into a deep depression like I often do and feel like I have managed to push all that are close to me away again...

I have hardly talked to anyone since Thursday. I am sorry, I dont know why I do this but I do. I am really thinking about calling the doctor about post pardum depression, but I am sure its just stress.

My house is a massive mess, which I need to really get caught up on because I have lots of people in and out of it 5-7 therapies a week, plus all that may or may not be attending Makaylas surgery.

I am sorry I have neglected everyone out there, I will promis to do better soon.

PT eval is done...

It was an appt I was REALLY looking forward too, the PT was the same PT we used for Alexander. YAY I love Melody, and would reccomend her to ANYONE.

She has special needs kids herself, so she knows what this is like as a mom, as well as a professional. VERY important in my opinion.

Okay, so the appointment was one of those appointments that after a while things kinda black out.. So much all at once, and its scary.

First off, we DEFINANTLY need to see the genetics dr, because of the long family history of this craino crap, my sister, my dad, and my uncle, we DEFINANTLY have something more going on than anyone knows about yet.

Second, she wants me to bring up the fact that Makayla may need a CT of her spine, the spine is supposed to be very flexable in babies, floppy almost, you should be able to take a baby and bend them almost any way (within reason) that you want, Makayla doesnt have that, in fact, she, when draped over a leg, doesnt bend sideways at all shes very ridgid, I never noticed that.

She cant straiten her leg out all the way, it stays bent, you cant force it strait.

She is pretty "tight" or Spastic, meaning that there is a good possibility that the brain being "squished" has already caused problems, one of the first signs of brain damage is spasticity. Thats the basic definition of Cerebral Palsy (or brain damage).

We have to do stretches with her constantly, more often when she is sleeping, the PT has also notices shes developing scoliosis (or curved spine) because of her spastisity and her preferance to one side.

There is more going on here besides just the craniostenosis, she says thats obvious, the baby has little range of motion with her extremities. We just need to figure out if its just caused by the damage done to her brain or what.

I am in a real whirlwind today, we see the Plastic Surgeon on Monday, I will update more about her then.

Its been a trying few days, its all kinda catching up to me.

Gillian asked me a million questions last night, she started crying and said she was scared. I, doing my best to maintain composer, told her it would be fine, and she told me she was afraid they would cut her head to deep, or off, or she would die... OMG tear at a mommies heart please?!

We had a long talk about how there are always risks with surgeries and that this was alot like her tonsil surgery (only alot more... but thats okay) and these doctors did this alot so they know what they are doing. She then asked me if she would die if she didnt have the surgery, and fact is yes... she would not be okay without a surgery. She has multiple closers which makes everything going on with her dangerous. They walk a fine line of waiting of surgery but not waiting to long.

So that makes me think about Alex... Okay, he has ridges.. every suture I can feel is ridged.... he looks ALOT like Makayla..... not just looks but head shape, prodominant forehead....

Are his delays caused more by craniostenosis thats been untreated and less by autism? So much going on in my head, I will be bringing him to see the Plastics guy, and will talk to the plastics guy about it while we are there. OMFG If I could just give alex a surgery and bring him back to us.... bring him out of his wonderland... I am crying now at the thought...Fact is, he does have autism, but is it made worse by something undiagnosed???

Yup... The CT results are back, Makayla has Craniostenosis.

I dont know what to think yet, everyone around me says to calm down.. to just do what the doctors say.. blah blah blah...I am pretty bitchy and not fun to be around.. I promis you that...

I have to give BIG kudos to Jennifer at Portrait Innovations in Nampa (if your around here, try them out!!) Alexander is REALLY hard to get good pictures of. He gets very scared and it often shows in pictures.

I took him in today for his 4 year shots, she did a great job with him!! Helping him feel comfortable, without over doing it for smiles. She was great with him!!

Well, its day 2, really day 1 for me, because yesturday was just setting the thing up. I am doing great, did 30 mins today.. 15 of that was cardio, 5 was warm up (mainly yoga), 5 was str, and 5 was balance. I feel good so far!

Okay, so I have posted many times about Makaylas tummy troubles..

Well according to doctor.. "its nothing to worry about" Although, he mumbled to himself that she probably has a milk allergy.. Well duh...

Anyway, shes had runny stools since birth, I am no longer breastfeeding :( I am very sad I couldnt make it through this. She was on Simulac's Alumentim as the only formula shes ever been on, and thats when the liquid stools started.

Well, I switched her yesturday to Enfamils Nutramyagin (sp?) and her last stool yestuuday and 2 today have been NORMAL!!!!! I am afraid to say that word! BUT, we totally have SUBSTANCE in her diapers!!! YAY!

Okay, so they make this really GREAT medicine for thrush called gentin violet. It works better then anything I ihave ever used, the only issue is it stains the skin... for a long time, like a week or longer...

BUT, when your boobs are bleeding, cracked, sore, and everyone has thrush you will go around with purple nipples just to deal with it....

SO, FF to today.. I am sick, pukeing my guts up, I am fine, just something I do when I get to stressed out.

Anyway Caitilyn is in my bed with me, where I am staying because I feel like crap.. and she gets on my beside table thing....and gets the bottle.. and just as I grab it from her (she had it like a second and a half) the lid comes off in my hand... all over caitilyns clothes, my hands, and my quilt!!!!

The quilt is black, so no issues there, the shirt C had on is tie die anyway, so it will look kinda cool... my hands on the other hand... look like I was caught "red handed" trying to steal something....

OH JOY!

it wasnt until she got up this morning at about 8 30 that she let it go. She likes the bed, but she HATES wakeing up!! She did so well, dispite getting up at 12 for a very quickly needed inhailer, I need to get an air cleaner in her room I think. She had a decent asthma attack last night.
